Thirty #Interviews in Thirty Days #Event - Day 7

Please tell us about your writing. Can you explain the title without giving too much away?

RB: Most of my writing comes from inspiration of things that I have experienced or from something someone else has experienced. I aim to inspire and give hope with my writing.

What was your journey as a writer?

RB: My journey as a writer so far has been tough. I have managed to push out three books total. Once which has been dedicated to my daughter (stillborn on May 27th) to create awareness for Pregnancy and Infant Loss. Even after the loss of my daughter, I have still managed to get back to the computer and start several new projects.

What writers inspire you?

RB: Well, the inspiration for Saying Goodbye Without Saying Hello came from author Jamie Gibson. She wrote her story (My Angel), which I read directly after Dakota gained her wings. This sort of put the fire under my butt to tell Dakota's story. I wanted to inspire others with this book, like Jamie inspired me to write it.

What are your future writing goals?

RB:  My biggest goal is like any other author out there, I'd like to reach people with my books and give them something to enjoy. It's the journey to publication that I mainly enjoy, but when I get feedback from my work, it inspires me to write more. I'd like to host a book signing in the future, as well as work on getting the paperback copies of my books into stores across the country and world.

Whom do you see as your ideal reader?

RB: It all depends on which book we have in question. The Silenced Series is aimed at young adults, Saying Goodbye Without Saying Hello is aimed at anyone who has had a pregnancy or infant loss in their family or if you know someone who has had a loss, and I have other books in the works that are aimed at different demographics as well.

When you have time, what would we find you reading?

RB: At this time, I'm mainly reading inspirational books to help me deal with the loss of my daughter. It's very hard for me to get into any fictional books. Although I do have some on my reading list, I don't know when I'll be able to connect to them and read them.

What do you learn from your writing?

RB: Each book has its own lesson. With Silenced, I learned that not everyone will enjoy your books but you will find a few who will love it. I've learned a lot about writing itself, as well as editing. I think with each book I'll learn something new with writing and editing. I love learning so it's a very enjoyable process for me.

Who has been your biggest supporter?

RB: Well, there are two. God is number one. He supported me by giving me the talent to write. Then, my Husband. As I am sitting at home writing, he's out working to support our family. I've never heard anything negative about my writing from him. It's only been inspirational comments. As all people are today, we are making it financially, but I never hear my husband tell me I need to give up writing and find a "real" job. He knows deep down inside this is what I love to do. I may not make millions from it, (I'm blessed to reach even $100 a month writing) and he still pushes me to write.

How are you promoting your work?

RB: Right now, I am mainly sticking with social media. But as for the beginning of 2014, I'll be taking it one step further and doing what I can to promote in the small town I live in, as well as in the other towns around us. I hope to become known as a writer here in my own community and see their support.

What advice can you give to aspiring writers?

RB: As I always say.. NEVER GIVE UP!!! Writing can be challenging and very time consuming. But you'll only go as far as you push yourself. If you want to go big, don't stop until you get there.

Where can our readers find a copy of your work?

RB: Right now the paperbacks of each book is available on Amazon. (I'm hoping to change that this coming new year.) Each one of my books are available on Amazon for the Kindle and Barnes and Noble for the Nook. I also have a few of them listed on Smashwords.

And finally, as an author, do you have any quirks or habits that help you write better?

RB: Well, I have to have a fresh cup of coffee and there has to be noise around me. If it's too quiet, then I can't concentrate. I've always been used to my daughter playing in the background or the television running.

Thank you. I wish you the best of luck with your writing.

Thirty #Interviews in Thirty Days #Event- Day 5

Interview with RaeBeth McGee-Buda:

Q: What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I do the stay at home mommy thing. I feel that time is so much more special now that I have experienced what I did in May. I try my hardest to make every moment count and make it one to remember.

Q: What do you like most about the genre you write in?
I write in Christian but there are several different sub genre I wrote in. I loved writing in both so far because I was able to write in personal experience. I tried to write in a way where the person reading the book could feel the way I was feeling at that time.

Q: Where is your favorite place to write?
I really don’t have a favorite place to write. Although I am working on a reading/writing nook in my living room. I will have all the author swag I’ve gathered from other authors displayed as well as all the books I’ve purchased from the authors. This will eventually be my writing area when it’s complete.

Q: What’s your next project?
I’m going to start working on a project I started a while ago, which is titled Forbidden Destiny. This one is a paranormal.

Q. What made you want to start writing?
I’ve always loved to write. I started by writing poems which I keep to myself. At first it was a healthy way of expressing how I was feeling. Then in high school we had an assignment to write a short story. One day while going through my old boxes, my sister came across Silenced and suggested I added on to it. Therefore for the next five years… I did.

Q. Who’s your main audience?
My main audience is young Christian adults & adults who like suspense.

Q. When it comes to writing- what are your strong points? What are your weaknesses?
My strong points for writing is coming up with the idea’s for new stories. Some times my ideas are based on events within my own life or those very close to me. I always ask permission before writing their stories. It seems like the lack of ideas for my books never happen. As for my weaknesses, I do too much at one time. I’m writing several different books, a stay at home mom that’s expecting her second baby, a wife, blogger who tries to help support other authors, and I try to make myself happy in the process of all of this. Therefore, as of lately… I haven’t had much time to write.

Q. What do you think of this term- Writer’s Block? How do you overcome it?
Writers block has happened to me. I overcame it by stepping away from the project until the characters were willing to work with me. Usually it’s for a few days but I’ve seen it happen and take several months to get back into.

Q. How many books have you written?
I have three completed and one in the works.

Q. How many are published?
Three books total.

Q. Are you self published or traditionally published?

I’m self published and wouldn’t change it for the word. I love having control of my works and being able to do what I want with them.

Q. What type of books do you enjoy reading?

I like all types of Fiction. Although I prefer reading paranormal.
Q: How do you feel about Dr. Pepper?

I drink it on an occasion but I’d prefer drinking Mt. Dew over Dr. Pepper. (Sorry, LOL)

Thirty #Interviews in Thirty Days #Event - Day 3

Hi Raebeth thank you for accepting to be interviewed. As my blog says ‘ Complete randomness from a crazy author’ so expect the unexpected J
How long have you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve always been a writer. It’s just recently that I’ve considered myself as an author. I’ve written short stories and poems. As an adult, I’ve exchanged the short stories and poems for novels.
Have you come up against any hurdles along the way?
Of course. When I first began expanding on Silenced (which started as a short story) I was a new mom. So in between learning to be a mom I was writing. I’ve moved several times while writing Silenced so this made it harder to finish. But I finally accomplished it and I’m thrilled.
That’s brilliant. I know exactly where you are coming from. I wrote one short story just after I had my youngest. Then my eldest was asking me for another story and I was moving home J
What would you say is the most difficult thing about being a writer is?
I would say right now would be finding the time to write. I have my six year old daughter and I’m pregnant with my second. I’m a stay at home mom and therefore the household chores are my duty as well.
Snap! I try and write when everyone is in bed, that way I can give my writing my full attention, but still I get side tracked lol.
What or who inspires you to write?
Life inspires me to write and so does my daughter. I gleam with happiness when I see her sitting on the couch with one of my books pretending to read it. She has so much support for me.. That it’s actually inspiring to write more.
Children are amazing. My series is named after my eldest and she has a sister in it who is named after my youngest J
If  your books are a series, how many books do you plan to have in your series?
At this time there’s only two books. First is Silenced and I’m working on the second. I’ve titled the second Silenced: The Overtaking.
Do you have any other writing projects on the go, apart from your current series?
Yes I do. It’s a paranormal book.
If you could be any of your characters who would it be and why?
I would be the main character out of my paranormal book I’m writing. Although I can’t say why because I don’t want to give anything away about this book just yet.
What genre would you say your books are in?
Silenced & Silenced: The Overtaking are in young adult, suspense, and general fiction.
“Unknown” (I am unsure exactly if I’m going to stick with the current title) is in the paranormal genre.
Do you have any favourite authors?
Yes I have a lot of favorite authors. To name a few…. Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King.
As a Brit we have one burning question going around our country…………… Do you scrunch or fold? ;) (toilet paper)
Totally threw me off with this one… LOL…. Fold..
LOL I do like to be random ;)
What do you like to do besides writing?
I enjoy reading, spending time with family, or dancing all crazy to loud music with my daughter. Therefore… I work on making memories too.
You sound like me lol.
What is your favourite cheese?
I really don’t like cheese.
Sweet or savoury?
Sweet
Would you rather be attacked by one horse sized duck or 20 duck sized horses?
I would say one horse sized duck. I’m not coordinated enough to watch all 20 duck sized horse. Therefore that one is a guaranteed loss.
If you had one wish that I could wave a magic wand and grant you, what would it be and why?
I would want depression, self harm, and cancer to be non-existent.
Thank you Raebeth for taking the time to answer my questions. I love your name J
